What is Gochu Jang?

 

Gochu Jang is a fermented hot pepper paste that has a history over 1,000 years. 

 

It’s a savory, spicy, and pungent fermented Korean condiment made from malt, red chili, glutinous rice, fermented soybeans, and salt.

 

We make it from scratch at our kitchen in San Francisco.

How to Enjoy:

 

Inspired by Gochu Jang sauce for ‘Bibim Bab,’ this sauce has a complex savory hot flavor. Good for mixing in with rice, noodles, salad. Also try it on sandwich, hamburger, or hot dog as a topping. Another fun way to enjoy this sauce is as a marinade for meat and vegetables, and to add a unique flavor profile to soups and stews.

How to Enjoy:

 

This unique hot sauce is sweet, tangy and spicy at the same time.  One of the most common and popular pairings is with seafood, especially raw sea food (sashimi) or roasted ones. Try dipping a piece of raw oyster or salmon sashimi into this sauce. You will LOVE it! This sauce is also great for making cold noodle salad or veggie salad.
